Jews for Exegesis: The First Jews to Read the Bible in Context
Beginning January 18 – Runs for 6 Weeks
Rabbinical Intern Samuel Gelman
Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, better known as Rashi, was one of the foundational Rabbis of the Middle Ages. He was one of the first Jews to stress the idea of pshat: reading the Bible in context. His grandson, Rabbi Samuel Ben Meir, also known as Rashbam, took his grandfather’s new ideas and ran with them even farther. Join us this Winter as we look at their work and the birth of reading the Torah as a book.
