Dear JCCP/CBT Family:
I am looking forward to serving as President of the JCCP/CBT this year. Ruth and I have been Paramus residents for twenty-six years and throughout that time the JCCP/CBT has been an important part of our lives. We have celebrated many life cycle events here.
Many of you have asked why I am taking on this awesome responsibility. I believe that the Jewish Community of Bergen County needs a place to recognize as its home and to serve the community with its varying needs. I understand that all our members have their own opinions about our future direction, but one thing I pledge to you is to listen to your opinion. I want to promote free and open communication with all members.
Looking back on the past year, I am delighted to see a return to normalcy, with a combination of Zoom and in-person events, including two Shabbat dinners for our members. The latest was the celebration of Cantor Weiss’ retirement after twenty-six years with our congregation. I am looking forward to Cantor David Krasner serving as a part time Cantor of our congregation. We now have a well-attended minyan in the Chapel on Thursdays.
Remember that we are all volunteers and need your willing participation and support to grow and thrive. I am asking congregants to consider joining a committee or finding a new way to engage in the community of the JCCP/CBT. The only silly or crazy idea is the one that you don’t share with us, so don’t be shy! If you would like to join or increase your involvement in our community, but are unsure of the opportunities to do so, kindly reach out to our office or any of our congregational leadership. Since we’ve seen some return to normalcy I am looking forward to more congregants and their extended families returning to in-person High Holiday services this year.
On behalf of myself, Ruth, Joanna and Mike, the Board of Trustees, and Officers of the JCCP/CBT I wish you a Healthy, Happy, Sweet and Prosperous New Year.
Stuart Smith, President Jewish Community Center of Paramus/Congregation Beth Tikvah
