Messiahs, Rebels and Kings: History of the Second Temple Period
Led by our Rabbinical intern Samuel Gelman
A 5-session series, either on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Beginning on:
Tuesday, May 11
1:00 PM
or
Thursday, May 13
7:00 PM
You remember the Maccabees from Chanukah. You know about the Romans from History of the World Part I. You think you heard about Alexander the Great in High School? And maybe there was a book called Ezra in the back half of the Bible? Whether you’re a Professor of Ancient History or you can’t tell your Cyruses from your Antiochuses, join Rabbinic intern Samuel Gelman on a journey through 500+ years of Jewish history. Along the way we’ll meet Judaism’s most famous Queen, history’s first guerilla warriors, scribes, Mark Antony, nation-builders, Pompei (not the town near the volcano), rabble-rousers, and several false Messiahs. Along the way, we’ll see just how so much of that history still impacts us today.
