For Excellence School |
|
| |
|
Our
Religious School has been awarded and is recognized as a Framework
for Excellence School by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
As of December 2007, our Religious School is one of only 100 religious
schools that hold this prestigious accommodation within the United
States, and one of only 11 within the state of New Jersey. |

Exciting
Jewish Education |
|
| |
|
Our
Religious School provides an exciting Jewish Education for children
ages 4 through 13. Our youngest children attend Candle Club. This
monthly class gives the children a taste of the Jewish holidays
through story, song, music and crafts. The Candle Club has won a
national award and the class is offered free to the community. Children
in kindergarten and first grade attend school once a week. They
learn about the synagogue, Jewish holidays, mitzvot and Torah stories.
Each week the children enjoy a music class where they develop a
repertoire of prayers and holiday songs. Second grade meets twice
a week. In this class, there is much excitement as the children
learn to read Hebrew. They study about Israel, Bible stories, Jewish
values and mitzvot. They, too, enjoy developing their skills in
singing prayers and other Hebrew songs. |

Hebrew,
Prayer, and More! |
|
| |
|
Children
in grades 3-5 attend school three times a week. The children become
skilled Hebrew readers and familiar with the siddur, its contents
and the meaning of the prayers. A highlight of 3rd grade is when
the children receive their first siddur. Through the years, the
children learn history from biblical times to the present. They
discuss Jewish current events in the USA, in Israel and around the
world. The children learn about the establishment of the State of
Israel. Our connection to Israel is made even more concrete with
our annual participation in the Salute to Israel Parade. This past
year the JCCP sent bus loads of people to march proudly up 5th Avenue.
In both 6th and 7th grade the children have classes twice a week.
Besides a fascinating curriculum, they are involved in individual
mitzvah projects in which each student creates their own community
service project. |

Special
Trips and Programs |
|
| |
|
Each
year we offer a variety of special trips and programs. This past
year we initiated two exciting new programs. School on Shabbat was
a big success. The whole school came together for services, lunch
and programming on two different weekends. The other new educational
concept is our electives program. Once a week, students in the older
grades selecte which courses they wish to take. They pursue their
interests in Jewish art, Midrash and the value of stories, or participated
in discussion with Rabbi Weiner. |

Holidays
Made Fun |
|
| |
|
On
Simchat Torah, Chanukah and Purim the school children join the community
in Center wide festivities. There is ice cream with Rabbi Weiner
in the Succah, marathon dreidel tournaments on Chanukah, tasting
interesting fruits on Tu B’shvat, model seders on Passover
and making our own cheesecakes on Shavuot. |
